Help finding a playstation game

Im having trouble finding a game, the name escapes me (as would be guessed)

The start of the game involves picking between two charactes. Ryu (i think is his name) he has white hair, this crazy looking outfit and axe. He is able to kill monsters and collect a token from them and transform into them.

The girl, name escapes me, is a princess who fights using 2 rings and does magic. Depending on the character you choose will give two stories but during the time both characters interact with each other. Anyone got a clue on it?

I love that game, but that's not right. Only Monica turns into monsters, and Max doesn't have white hair.

Er...as far as I know, describing the characters

The guy, stated above, white hair, really colorful outfit (wow does sound like max now that I remember Dark cloud 2), he has what looks like a Red pipe and at the end is a rounded blade, making up this axe.

The girl has red hair and I believe her story involves being betrayed and banished. Wears a blue robe (i believe its a robe)

Game wise : As far as the first part of the game, you walk and two guys are messing with a girl, depending on who you pick. The girl just runs up and attacks, the guys waits back and sees whats going on, either way you fight these two guys, 'kill' one of them and they both leave.

One of the first real boss's, you defeat two gargoyles and a staircase appears, you go up and a cutscene starts, looks like your on a tower and in the middle is more of the tower. Around the outside is just a giant circle, grass, nothing else. When you approach the door the boss drops down. Looks like a horse, he pretty much walks around then turns to charge into you.

EDIT: I found it! "Threads of fate" is the name. Thanks anyway guys.
