Ok I don't know if any one else has thought about this but like why do sports players get millions of dollars just for playing sports. Heck I do that in gym everyday. But then people who do important jobs like working at hospitals and being police officers and stuff don't get paid as nearly as much. I think this is wrong and should be changed.

The only reason they get paid so much is because everybody watches sports. The company then gets millions of dollars worth of profit, and then they CAN get that much salary.

It won't change. Get over it.

Sport players should be paid based on how they do that game. If they do well, they should get a nice paycheck that day. If they do nothing, I say don't pay them. Oh well, sports are the biggest industry on TV so it will never change.

The amount of money that pro athletes are paid is a reflection on society. That being that people put more emphasis on entertainment than essential services. I totally agree with TR that athletes should be paid per performance. You could have a base salary, plus bonuses for meeting and/or exceeding certain accomplishments, or averages, or goals, etc, etc.

The average salary for benchwarmers in baseball is 2,000,000. I would glady sit on a bench for 2 mill

Firefighters, police officers, and people in the medical field are all under paid. However, we will pay someone over $100 million to play 3 hours of a game for 9 years. You could start with a base salary based on how the player is expected to perform. Then, you should be able to raise/lower it based on how they actually do.

Yeah, but that is a distorted number. You can't lump in the handful of guys that make 60-80 million a year with a minor leaguer that got called up for the first time that is only getting paid 390K a season.
Though really, I'd sit on the bench all season for 390K. I guess I'm cheap?

I think it is hilarious how the MLB has base coaches. I mean they honestly don't do anything during the game. I bet they make around $100,000 though which is nice. It is fine if you have assistant coaches but you don't need to pay them extra to stand out there for no reason.

Base coaches are a huge part of the game. The player can't see where the ball is and how much time he has rounding the base to home so the coach has to tell him. Though I do find the 1st base coach a lot less important than the third base coach, they are both necessary.

I can just see Barry Zito looking through this thread, seeing TR's post and start to cry.

Yeah, but should they really be paid that much money? I guess I would rather see less money given to players since they make enough already. I mean some of them have so much money they don't know what to do with it.
That is kind of who that post was directed at.

This is where charities seem to come in for most athletes.

It's because we're retarded and don't use our money to pay off debts.

****, any asshole can walk off the street and become a police officer or firefighter; it takes talent to be a professional athlete.

I remember an AFL star was off for the whole season except for one game due to various injuries, most of them not sport related, and he still got paid full wage.
He retired after the season, but I think he was actually meaning to retire the season before, but didn't so he could grab one last pay cheque.

Yes, those African charities or the Arab charities. I always wonder why we don't take care of our own ****ing country. We are more worried about sex-addicts in Africa getting AIDS then people in our own country suffering. Also, celebs always adopt from another country when there are plenty of kids here who need parents. It is a load of bull****.
